Peabody American Legion Auxiliary makes plans for fall events

Staff writer

Peabody American Legion Auxiliary is planning several community events through the end of October.

Family Bingo Night

A family bingo night will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 30 at the legion hall, 108 N. Walnut St., to support children in USD 398. Participants are asked to bring school supplies.

There will be a $5 charge per card for adults and a $1 charge for children under 12 who are accompanied by adults.

School supplies will be given to the school district, and a portion of the money raised will be donated to the school district for purchase of supplies as needed throughout the school year.

Annual Fall Showcase

The annual vendors’ showcase will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 on the north side of the legion hall.

Admission is free. Home-based businesses, crafters, and creators of needlework will be selling their wares. Baked goods also will be for sale.

Sale of Avenue of Flags T-shirts will fund maintenance of the Peabody Avenue of Flags.

Lunch will be available for purchase, including the original Peabody “Snackburger.”

The money raised will go toward various veterans’ causes, including the Wichita Veterans’ Hospital, for Christmas gifts, and Blue Star service banners for families of veterans to place in their windows. Some of the money will be donated to the auxiliary emergency fund for veterans’ health needs.

Auxiliary member Myrna Wood said most of the vendor slots are full, but those still available can be reserved by calling (316) 772-2669.

Peabody Scarecrow Festival

The auxiliary has planned a family Halloween party for Oct. 28, starting at 6 p.m. on the east side of the legion hall.

Peabody Scarecrow Festival goers are encouraged to wear costumes. Prizes will be awarded for individual best costumes as well as family group costumes.

Entertainment will be provided.
