Peabody-Burns school board approves special education hiring

Peabody-Burns approved hiring of Duncan Whitlock during Monday’s special meeting as a part-time elementary special education and part-time physical education teacher.

“By doing this we’re getting a half-time special education teacher in addition to the one we have, which we really need for all the kids we serve,” superintendent Ron Traxson said.

Activities director Josh Laney is open to taking on more administrative duties, and if need be, has computer system experience in case Peabody-Burns needs IT help, Traxson said.

The school’s top choice for a business teacher is no longer available because of military obligations, he said.

Burns library is being set up so students there can access the Internet outside, and Peabody library already has public Wi-Fi access since not all students have access at home. The district already distributed Chromebooks to all students.
