Pete the Rhino ready to explore Marion and beyond

Staff writer

Anyone with a taste for having fun and a camera to use can enjoy a new activity in Marion.

Marion Parks and Recreation has a new initiative called “Where’s Pete?” that capitalizes on the community’s iconic “Pete the Rhino.”

“Judy Christensen donated several Pete the Rhinos that can be checked out to take with people,” parks and recreation director Margo Yates said.

Yates suggests a variety of things Pete the Rhino can do during trips out of the office. He can play, learn new things, or even be a good citizen while wandering around with an escort.

He can even chill out with a friend and pose for a selfie.

“Sometimes you have to enjoy some of the simple things in life,” Yates said.

Pete can travel around town or out of town. Selfies and other photos of Pete can be submitted to the Parks and Recreation department. All photos will be posted on the department’s social media web page to compile a list of Pete’s travels and activities.

“Every time someone sends one in, we’ll put it in the album,” Yates said.
