Joel Hanneman

Funeral services for Joel Hanneman of rural Peabody, who died Dec. 22, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, Hillsboro.

Phyllis Allen

Phyllis M. Allen, 85, of Herington, died Dec. 19 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.

Born March 12, 1924, at Lost Springs, to Harvey Clyde and Leila Pearl (Keller) Hegle, she was a lifelong area resident, graduating in 1941 from Diamond Valley High School, Burdick.

Phyllis was a homemaker, a telephone operator, and was employed by Fairmont Creamery, Baxter Construction Company, and House of Lee. She owned and operated Country Kitchen. She was a member of Herington United Methodist Church.

On Feb. 18, 1944, she married Thomas Allen at Lost Springs. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1999. A sister, Velma Green, also preceded her.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Hilliard of Herington, Linda Kreifels of Hooksett, New Hampshire, and Kimberly Ogle of Olathe; a sister, Doris Dehn of Quenemo; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday morning at Herington United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roy Nelson officiating. The Rev. Bill Peterson assisted him.

Burial followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Herington Hospital Foundation, mammogram fund, and sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway St, Herington KS 67449-3038.

Ruth Arnold

Ruth M. Arnold, 80, of Peabody, died Dec. 17 at Legacy Park, Peabody.

Born Jan. 20, 1929, in Manchester, to August and Grace (Rector) Steinborn, she was employed by Hallmark on an assembly line.

She was married to Raymond Arnold who preceded her in death, as well as her parents.

Survivors include a stepdaughter Leah Arnold of Andover and a stepgrandson.

A private family burial is planned.

Donita Buethe

Donita J. Buethe, 52, of Atchison, died Dec. 19 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City.

Born May 3, 1957, in Marion, she graduated from Centre High School.

She was employed by Hesston Corporation for more than 18 years.

Her husband, Dewayne Schmidt, and brothers Edward and Dennis Buethe preceded her in death.

Survivors include her parents, Donald L. and Peggy J. (Link) Buethe of Marion and a sister, Kim Harms of Lincolnville.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville.

Burial will be in Lincolnville Cemetery.

Pete Weibert

Pete Weibert, 93, of Lindsborg, died Dec. 20.

Born June 25, 1916, to Pete and Molly (Steinle) Weibert in Greeley, Colo., he married Edna Winifred Decker April 10, 1938, in Durham.

He was a farmer and a member of First Baptist Church in McPherson and Durham.

His brothers, Harry, Fred, Harvey, Eddie, and Ivan; a sister, Evelyn; and an infant sister preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, of Lindsborg; two sons, Larry of Lindsborg and Ronald of Durham; a daughter, Janet Bowden of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Dave of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday morning at Evangelical Covenant Church, Lindsborg.

Burial was at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury, prior to the funeral.

Wanita Selvy

Wanita Irene (Razor) Selvy, 88, of Aurora, Colo., died Dec. 10 at Aurora Care Center in Aurora.

Born in 1921 in Marion, she graduated from Marion High School. She and Bernard Selvy married in 1942. Bernard died in 2007.

In 1947, the couple moved to Newton and operated an interior decorating department. They lived in Newton until 1960 when they moved to Denver where she continued her career in interior decorating.

She was a member of South East Christian Church, now located in Parker, Colo.

Survivors include a daughter, Bernita Selvy Curry; a son, Charles Selvy; two sisters, Peggy Thies and Charlene Farmer; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Services were Dec. 17 at Newcomer Family Funeral Home-East Metro Chapel, Aurora.

Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.

The family has not made a decision on a memorial fund. Contributions may be sent to Bernita Curry, 14066 E. Stanford Circle, Unit H-10, Aurora CO 80015.
