At the Monday meeting of Lincolnville City Council, Mayor Barbara Kaiser announced that semis hauling pipe to the pipe depot at Quail Creek Road have been coming through Lincolnville since Friday.

She and council members agreed Keystone Pipeline supervisors and drivers are being “very careful and conscientious.”

Kaiser said the company notified her before the trucks began coming.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol are monitoring the activity.

The council approved maintenance service for a new dump truck the city recently acquired. They accepted a bid from Krch Automotive and approved an overall expenditure not to exceed $250.

Purchase of the 1996 Dodge 3500 was approved Jan. 30 during a special meeting. It cost $9,588.

The council approved making $10 in quarters available at city hall each month for washing the truck.

With Councilman Joe Vinduska abstaining, the council accepted a sealed bid of $325 from Vinduska for a 1974 Dodge 200 pickup. No other bids were received.

The council extended bidding on another truck for two weeks because no bids were received.

Streets Chairman Pat Combs complemented city employees Troy Peterson and Dennis Stevenson for “doing a tremendous job” in treating streets this winter during inclement weather. He also reported the semi parking problem had been solved.

City Celebrations Chairman Kristen Ebaben announced Easter Bunny Day would be March 27 in the city park or in Lincolnville Community Center in case of inclement weather.

The council discussed how to deal with the issue of two residents who are using travel trailers as dwellings. Earlier they issued certified letters to the owners informing them of a city ordinance that permits residential use of a travel trailer for no longer than 90 days.

The deadline for removal of the trailers is March 23. The mayor will consult with City Attorney Dan Baldwin regarding the appropriate response if the individuals do not comply with the ordinance.

The meeting ended with a 15-minute executive session to discuss personnel. Cristina Peterson excused herself from the session because she is related to two city employees. No action was taken when the meeting reopened.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 5.
