ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

HILLSBORO

Dec. 18  Attempted burglary of a garage in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St., a report of reckless driving, and an open door at Hillsboro Sports Complex were investigated.

Dec. 19  Cody Delk’s unlocked, white 1998 Chevy 1500 Silverado was reported stolen between 5 and 10:30 p.m. from the 400 block of S. Washington St. Police also investigated a complaint of loud music in the 200 block of S. Madison St. and stood by during a civil situation at Barkman Honey.

Dec. 20  Wheels and tires were stolen and a 2017 Silverado for sale on the Midway Motors lot was left on blocks early in the morning, causing a total loss estimated at $7,171. Police also assisted with a child custody matter.

Dec. 21  A GPS was reported stolen a week earlier from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 600 block of S. Washington St. A complaint of reckless driving, a 911 hang-up, and a report of a telephone scam in which the caller claimed to be from the Internal Revenue Service also were investigated.

Dec. 22  A disturbance in the 600 block of S. Washington St., an open door, and a report of a dog running free were investigated.

Dec. 23  A stolen vehicle recovered by Kansas Highway Patrol in Kechi was returned to its owner. A report of drunken driving was investigated.

Dec. 24  A complaint about a dog in the 300 block of S. Birch St. was investigated.

Dec. 25  A lost license plate was located.

Dec. 26  A license plate was reported stolen in the 100 block of N. Ash St. Complaints about parking on Floral Dr. and in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. and of a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of S. Date St. were investigated. Police assisted a motorist locked out of a vehicle in the 300 block of Ash St. and supervised an exchange of child custody in the 700 block of Lincoln St.

Dec. 27  Reports of juveniles throwing rocks in Memorial Park pond, a possibly sick animal in the 200 block of N. Adams St., a dog complaint in the 300 block of N. Birch St., a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of S. Date St., and suspicious activity in the 200 block of S. Elm St. were investigated.

Police also checked on a residence in the 100 block of S. Elm St. and stood by during civil situations in the 400 and 600 blocks of N. Ash St. and the 300 block of S. Date St.

MARION

Dec. 3  An open door at Air Stream Guy and a breakdown of a skip loader in the 200 block of W. Main St. were investigated. Oral warnings issued in the 400 block of W. Main St. for speeding, at US-56 and Upland Rd. and at US-56 and Ridge Rd. for having no license plate light, at US-56 and Industrial Rd. for speeding, and at US-56 and Cedar St. for a failed headlight.

Dec. 4  A dog reported to be running free could not be located. A suspicious vehicle turned out to belong to an employee.

Dec. 5  Suspicious activity on Grant St. was investigated. Another dog complaint was taken. Oral warnings were issued for failure to yield in the 200 block of S. Roosevelt St., speeding in the 300 block of E. Main St., and failed headlights on Lincoln St. and at Lawrence and Coble Sts.

Dec. 6  Police notified the owner of a vehicle found with an open door and items strewn onto the ground in Webster’s Auto Service parking lot. Complaints about driving in the 800 block of N. Roosevelt St. and a broken-down vehicle in the 200 block of E. Santa Fe St. were investigated.

Dec. 7  An open door at the city shop was secured. A person reported to be walking around in Tanglewood Subdivision could not be located. Another driving complaint in the 800 block of N. Roosevelt St. and a dog complaint in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. were investigated.

Dec. 8  Police helped with a disruptive student at the Oasis special education center and issued a citation to the owner of a dog running free on Billings St. A motorist in the 800 block of N. Cedar St. was warned about speeding.

Dec. 9  Police were unable to locate a party that reportedly included underage drinking or a cat that reportedly had been injured but did take reports of a hit-and-run accident and a dog running free in the 700 block of S. Roosevelt St. An officer turned off flashers on a vehicle in Webster’s parking lot.

Dec. 10  A vandalism report was taken and an officer attended church services.

Dec. 11  Another vehicle, this one in the 100 block of N. 4th St., was found to have its flashers on because of a faulty switch.

Dec. 12  A motorist was warned for speeding on US-56.

Dec. 13  A vehicle suspiciously parked in the Elgin Hotel parking lot turned out to belong to a hotel employee who was waiting to have the vehicle repaired.

Dec. 14  Police took a report that an elderly resident had been scammed out of $4,500 and read “The Night Before Christmas” to pupils at Marion Elementary School.

Dec. 16  Oral warnings were issued for speeding in the 100 block of E. Main St. and for not wearing a seat belt in the 400 block of E. Main St. and in the 400 block of N. Cedar St.

Dec. 18  An attempted scam was reported. Four oral warnings were issued for not having or using headlights on Main St. between Thorp and Freeborn Sts. An open door was secured and a suspicious vehicle at Ampride was checked.

Dec. 19  An oral warning for no brakes lights was issued at 4th and Main Sts. and a report of suspicious activity was investigated.

Dec. 20  A domestic disturbance was reported in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St.

Dec. 21  A suicidal person was taken to St. Luke Hospital and transferred to Prairie View Mental Health Center.

Dec. 22  A motorist returned to a service station and paid for gas pumped.

Dec. 23  Hillsboro police asked for help with an intoxicated patron at Wendy’s.

Dec. 24  Police helped with a rollover accident east of US-56 and Industrial Rd. and, according to their log of activity, “talked to Santa while he and the reindeer stopped on a break in Marion.”

Dec. 25  A motorist was orally warned for speeding (47 mph in a 30-mph zone) on N. Cedar St.

Dec. 26  Police investigated a report of suspicious activity.

Dec. 28  A dog running free was located and picked up by its owner.

Dec. 30  Officers orally warned motorists on S. 3rd St. and N. Cedar St. about speeding, on US-56 about having no license plate light, and on S. 2nd St. about going the wrong way on a one-way street.

Dec. 31  Dogs found to be neglected were taken into custody. A harassment complaint was investigated. Two motorists received oral warnings for having no license plate lights on US-56, one was warned for speeding in the 1200 block of E. Main St., and one was warned for failing to dim headlights in the 1000 block of Kellison St., where two minors also were cited for consumption of alcohol.
