Presbyterians plan musical coffee shop

“Coffee-shopping at the Presby,” a night of cupcakes, coffee, and music, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Marion Presbyterian Church.

Rachel Olsen will provide a variety of cupcakes, including red velvet and mocha espresso, along with different varieties of coffee and tea.

Music for the evening will be provided by Hillsboro High graduate Taytum Miller and Marion High graduate Adam Kjellin.

The duo will sing worship songs along with contemporary and love songs.

“It isn’t anything fancy,” Miller said. “It’s simply our voices and Adam’s beautiful piano skills. It’ll be a very laid back atmosphere, and very lighthearted with good food and good coffee.”

Miller and Kjellin were both school honor choir members, and perform in worship teams at their churches.

They have performed together for a little over a year.

“I enjoy how well our voices seem to fit,” Miller said. “We feed off of each other very well. If I can tell he’s feeling the melody I’ll jump in on a harmony and it always works. It’s kind of strange really.”

Most songs they will perform at the event are songs that clicked with both of them, Miller said.

“Performing is a good outlet for me and a good connecting point for the two of us,” Miller said. “We met through performance and music and it’s kind of been our sort of glue.”

Donations from the event will go to Marion County Food Bank and Resource Center.
