Marion County Commission heard a request for an exception to a policy prohibiting new dock construction at Marion County Park and Lake at the commission meeting Monday.
Robert Smalley bought the cabin in the 1950s and built a dock on the lake soon after, he told the commission. He said he closed the cabin after the Kansas Department of Health and Environment required the cabin be equipped with potable water.
Smalley planned to renovate the cabin, but health issues prevented that. He said he now plans to tear down the cabin at 113 Lakeshore Drive and build a new one. He asked the commission to grant him an exception to build a new dock at the site of the old one.
Commissioner Randy Dallke said he wanted to see progress on the renovations before considering allowing Smalley to rebuild the dock.
In other business:
- The commissioners accepted a bid for transport fuel. Cardie Oil presented the low bid of $18,183, and Cooperative Grain and Supply presented a bid of $18,670.
- The commission voted 2-0 to have American Metropolitan Environmental conduct a study of air quality in the courthouse basement for $1,549.
