High selling quilts brought more than $126,000 on Saturday at the Mennonite Central Committee Sale in Hutchinson. Several quilts from Marion County contributed in the fund-raising efforts, which help fight hunger around the world.
“The highest selling quilt went for $8,100 and was made by Four-Ever Friends from Hesston,” MCC local church coordinator Leona Schroeder said.
Members of the Happy Home Workers Mission Circle from Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel hand- quilted and donated a navy and blue star comforter, which sold for $800.
Shirley Kasper of Hillsboro created and donated a purple and pastel wall-hanging quilt, which sold for $600. The wallflowers quilt was 28 by 31 inches.
Many other items donated by local people were auctioned to raise money for MCC at the sale, including tractors, restored antique automobiles, lawn furniture, birdhouses, and more.
Two hundred sixteen quilts, comforters, wall hangings, table runners, and afghans were part of the 2012 quilt auction.
