I don’t know if the young people make a big deal of Valentine’s Day as we did when I was a giggly young girl. My young people have all grown up and flitted away.

We used to make valentines out of pretty wallpaper. They were taken to school and placed in a shoebox sitting on the teacher’s desk. You were supposed to have one for every child. It was an exciting time when they were delivered, especially if you were hoping to have one from a special person.

I remember my son had a crush on a girl in his class. He bought a box of candy, slipped it on her porch, and then ran as fast as he could.

“The sky is falling, the sky is falling.” At least for a woman who was recuperating from surgery while lying in her bed. A huge rock crashed through the wall near her house. It had fallen from a stone wall near her home. Quite a scare.

One time my sister, Dorothy, was driving back from Kansas City. We were just going under an overpass when some rocks crashed on the car. Looking up we saw some young boys having a great time throwing rocks from above at cars as they drove by. Now that was scary. I hope we reported the deed to the guy in charge.
