I see that a Shriners circus will be performing in Wichita. How I would like to go. Ever since I was a kid, I have loved circuses. I’m so impressed with those big, hulking elephants with pretty girls perched on top. What are those huge creatures thinking? I have heard that they never forget the people who are mean to them.
I got to sit on the back of one here in Marion. Marion Kiwanis Club used to sponsor a small circus every summer. When these large lions and tigers performed, you held your breath because they were liable to attack their trainers. It was fun to see the horses and pretty girls perform.
When the aerial artists were way up there on those little, thin wires, you knew that someone could fall. The clowns were all over and when a tiny car drove in with a dozen or so occupants, it was just too much.
There was lively music, popcorn, and bottles of pop — all very exciting and fun.
We would drive out to the lake early where the circus would be located and watch the workers set up the tent.
I’m reading “When Everything Changed.” It tells of the dramatic changes in our lives since 1960.
It just sneaked up on us when women got their freedom. They could work outside the home or join the military. The men learned to care for the children. Some of them did. Women had been slaves to their husbands but now they have equal rights. What a change!
I hope you had a nice Easter. The weather was wonderful.
