COLUMNS:   Random Thoughts

Contributing writer

I just looked through a daily newspaper to see if I could find some interesting news. In the first place, it is hard to believe that newspapers have taken such a hard knock during these low business times. They are making a slow comeback. It is not just the big city papers, but even local weekly papers too. It is discouraging.

I found one good item. Some young people driving between Salina and Lindsborg saw something lying on the road. It was a woman’s purse and had thousands of dollars in it. They reported it to the police and the purse was returned to the right person.

I enjoy the little opinion quips. This may not be funny but amusing. In connection with Al Gore’s marital troubles, it was wondered how the climate was in his house now.

I’m always looking for animal stories. A strange creature was found sleeping on a Chicago porch. The experts said it was an exotic kinkajou, native of Central and South America.

Robbers sometimes leave personal property and police can find them that way.

I imagine Hillary Clinton was embarrassed as the head of our state department when she found they had sent a special birthday greeting to the queen of England a week too early.

There are always stories about cats and dogs. In Ottawa, an animal shelter had paid $11,000 for a cat condo for the shelter. The company has the money and the shelter has not received the condo.
