COLUMNS:   Random Thoughts

I have a special interest in cats. When my children were young, we had a cute, all-black kitten. It disappeared, and we looked everywhere. Finally, someone saw it under the bridge (when we had a bridge over the Luta on Main Street).

Not long ago I wrote about “Dewey,” a true story about a cat being dropped in a book box at an Iowa library. The cat was adopted by the library. The other day I read about a kitten found in a mailbox. Maybe the person who squeezed it in there had read about Dewey.

Anyway, it was discovered and several people offered to adopt it. What would be a good name for it — “Storage” or “P.O.?”

I just learned of a book, “101 Things That Have Affected Our Country,” including the Barbie doll. They are the “Most Influential People Who Never Lived.” Others are Lancelot, Mother Goose, and Scrooge. Isn’t that fun and amazing?

The death of Michael Jackson certainly set the media on fire. Did you ever see anything like it? In all of my 100 years, I never have. What a sad state of affairs.

Then, too, what makes our governors turn into “pansies”? (That is an insult to the flower.) I think there are five or six named. Is there no shame? Or is there no pride in their office? We voters need to demand more from their activities. The next time someone is running for office, we should ask a few questions or check their backgrounds.
