COLUMNS:   Random Thoughts

There has been so much news about Michael Jackson since his death that I thought I would tell you about my connection with him.

My 8-year-old great-granddaughter, Mandy, was visiting in McPherson and became very ill, and having a lot of pain. It turned out she had to have an appendectomy.

Naturally, I had to go see her and take her a little gift. In a jewelry shop I found a necklace with a small white glove covered with sparkly jewels. I knew she was a great fan of Michael Jackson. So, that is what I gave her.

Since his death, I wondered if she still had the necklace. So I wrote to her. She came to visit me wearing the necklace. She is in her 20’s now, and the necklace has been hidden away for quite some time.

Poor Michael has had a sad life. I feel so sorry for his three little children.

Now, we have lost a famous anchorman, Walter Cronkite.

Three important events happened during his time. A man landed on the moon, of course World War II, and the shooting of President John F. Kennedy.

He is said to be the most trusted person in his line of work. I’m sure he will be missed.
