Random Thoughts

In Sunday’s Wichita Eagle, I noticed an article about Oberammergau, Germany. I have been there!

Oberammergau is a village in Germany. In 1634, they made a vow that they would present the Passion Play every 10 years or so, if God would keep the plague away from this town. It is performed on a large stage against the Bavarian Alps, out in the open with a very large cast.

I think it was performed in the 1990s and Salina Presbyterian Church took a group for a performance.

Families have performed for years. There was some difficulty as some people objected to the idea that Christ was a Jew, so it was possible the show would not go on, but it did. Half was performed in the morning, two hours was allowed for lunch, and then the performance continued. On our way to Oberammergau, we visited other historical, religious sites. All very impressive. Sort of overwhelming.

Now the time has come for another performance in 2010. I do not remember the cost when I went but now they say $4,000 (including travel).

In the same newspaper, there was an article about credit card charges being mixed up. A couple found they were using another person’s credit card and had no idea how they got it. Neither person knew how it happened. Evidently, a clerk had noticed it. I guess you should watch everything.
