CORRESPONDENTS:   Random Thoughts

About two years ago, two beautiful pink flamingos escaped from the Wichita zoo. One was captured but the second got completely away. Several times a glimpse of one was seen somewhere in the south. Recently the Wichita Eagle mentioned that she was seen somewhere in Texas. How would like to see that in your backyard?

Some things I would like to see in my yard. A really beautiful horse would be welcomed. A horse like Dolly that we had on the farm. Even as a kid, I rode Dolly bare-back all over the farm. She was the color sorrel with white mane. I loved that horse. Her nose was soft as velvet. My Dad loved horses. Once he owned a team like the ones seen in the beer ads. Long hair covered their hooves. He loved the palomino and had several. I remember we had a darling white colt with tan markings, a real palomino.

I think I have told you about Turkey, our Shetland pony. She was pretty ornery and loved to shake us off her back. Once we decided to have a parade, so we decked her out with lilac garlands. She was the center of our parade. Well, she was our parade!

When my little sister, Dorothy, as elected baby queen of the kaffir corn carnival, it was pretty exciting. She was positioned on a hayrack wagon with other little girls seated around as her attendants.

All were wearing pretty colorful dresses. She wore a long white satin dress and a jeweled crown. The wagon was pulled by six little Shetland ponies. Our family was so proud.

That was the year that the country schools had contests. I won a book for my good handwriting. I couldn’t do that now!
