COLUMNS:   Random Thoughts

Let’s celebrate! Let’s cry! The election is over! Some are happy but some are sad. I hope we will forget the grudges and hurt feelings. It is time to mend fences and work together to go forward in cooperation to restore our great place to live.

That would include trying to be friends with other countries and try to work out our problems. Won’t it be wonderful to never see another campaign commercial? I wish the people who make up the shows would cut down on all the violence and scandals. What has happened to interesting and worthwhile shows? It’s our fault. If we refused to watch those worthless shows, and threaten the companies who furnish the commercials, we could sink some of them. Come on, women. Let us use our power! Men can join in, too.

Two questions facing us now are a big, enlarged jail with a sales tax increase, and what name do we want for Central Park?

Do you ever watch “Wife Swap” or “Super Nanny?” Right there we see some things that need to be changed. Are those real people and real situations?

I just read a novel, “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It is really interesting and is composed of letters of the characters in the book to each other. It is the story of people on the Channel Islands between England and France during the time the Nazi soldiers were stationed there during World War II.

There seems to be a lot of stories about the German occupation in various countries during that war. There certainly is a challenge to writers about that time. Lots of experiences there to write about. We can’t begin to express the feelings of the people living under those circumstances.

It makes us thankful that we haven’t had to experience that sort of war occupation.
