LETTERS:   Reader wants to help family get dog returned

To the editor:

I read the article in the Nov. 24 edition about the Wiens family dog.

I was in Hillsboro in December 2009 and met Sheldon Wiens who was selling puppies outside Hillsboro High School, while a junior varsity wrestling tournament was going on. We were one of the first teams to arrive. I love dogs and had to look at the pups. I sent a photo of the litter to my wife and asked her what she thought. I explained to her the boy and his needs and he had helped raise the pups. He sold them for only $25 each.

Our bus driver called a friend and they drove up from Clearwater to buy one. At the end of the day, we went to get on the bus and the boy was still there with one pup left. I made a Christmas purchase — our dog, Ty, lives with us and his sister lives down the street.

I made several trips outdoors during the tournament and talked to Sheldon. As a teacher and coach for 23 years, it pulled at my heartstrings.

The story tears at those same heartstrings. Is there anything we can do?

My grandparents and parents are originally from Marion and my parents still read the newspaper — that’s how I saw the article.

I do believe that Lacey is Ty’s mother, as Ty is one-half golden retriever and one-half lab.

Sheldon needs his dog back.
