Record crowd for women's scramble

Golfers from 13 cities competed Thursday in a nine-hole women’s team scramble tournament at Marion Country Club.

The 26 teams entered were “the most I’ve ever had,” tournament coordinator Lois Smith said.

Judy Noller of Marion and Kathy Kopfman of Burlington took first with a score of 35. Teams from Topeka, Wichita, and Newton filled the next three places.

Other Marion teams who placed included Jami Mayfield and Rachel Cartwright, second place in the first flight with a 43, and Jeannie Wildin and Neva Hett, second in the second flight with a 46.

First — Cindy Langlois and Rhonda Scheffler, Wichita, 43; second — Jami Mayfield and Rachel Cartwright, Marion, 43; third — Vicki Manuel and Rita Brennan, Hillsboro, 44; fourth — Rose Stucky and Carly Winans, Newton, 44.

First — Sheryl Rowe and Kim Eaton, Wichita, 46; second — Jeannie Wildin and Neva Hett, Marion, 46; third — Dani McFadden, El Dorado, and Becky Moore, Towanda, 46; fourth — Raye Dirks and Brenda Kimberly, Hillsboro, 47.

Skill Prizes:

Longest putt No. 2 — Sherri Hess, Marion, 33 feet, 2 inches; longest putt No. 6 — Judy Noller, Marion, 28’ 3½”; closest to pin No. 3 — Kathy Kopfman, Burlington, 20’ 10”; closest to pin No. 9 — Sue Brant, Council Grove, 22’ 7”.
