Recycling isn’t an easy task but worth it
Letter to the Editor:
I always read the “Your Turn” comments, although, to be honest, many times I find it depressing. I have never responded, until now.
This past week’s comments included a scolding for the second time recently about not having recycling containers at our main events. The first time I read this concern was in the Aug. 13 issue which was after Chingawassa Days and 38 days prior to Art in the Park. So beginning last week’s comment with “Once again,” seemed a bit unfair to me.
I would welcome the person who is writing about this need to visit with me and help figure out an inexpensive, successful way of handling recyclables at events. I am always very glad to have suggestions and comments but I also believe folks should not just tell me what needs to be done, they should help me, or whomever, make it happen, PLEASE!
We will need to figure out what kind of containers to use and how to pay for them. We will need to make sure it is user friendly as most folks do not comply with putting recyclables in marked containers. As a result, we would need a plan for sorting the recyclables from regular trash and still stay ahead of the mess. And, we would need a plan for hauling the recyclables.
Again, I am all for this, but we honestly need help. It is tough enough when everyone else goes home after a big event and only those willing to stay and help cleanup are left in the park, and we are TIRED! Trash is a constant, ongoing chore at these events.
Oh, by the way. Greg Bowers can be credited with collecting recyclables at this year’s Old Settlers’ Day. So, you see there are folks who care about this issue. We just need to work together.
