Reservoir algae advisory lifted

All toxic algae warnings and advisories for Marion Reservoir were lifted Thursday for only the second week this summer.

The only other week since May 31 when neither an advisory nor a more serious warning was in effect was June 21 through 28.

The all-clear issued Thursday was based on water tests performed July 30 for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The water will be tested again Monday.

Under last week’s blue-green algae advisory, reservoir facilities were open, but direct contact with water by wading or swimming was strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.

Under a blue-green warning, like what was in effect two weeks ago, water contact was outright forbidden.

Now that all advisories and warnings have been lifted, there are no special restrictions or admonitions about contacting the water.
