Residents get first look at Florence film

Florence residents had an opportunity to preview the documentary, “Florence, Kansas,” Monday at the Masonic Lodge, downtown Florence.

Producers Stephen Lerner and Frank Barthell presented a program which included the showing of the 20-minute documentary.

Following the film a panel including Kansas Humanities Council representative Tom Averill, Emporia State University English professor James Hoy, Lerner, and Florence area residents Judy Mills and Robert Harris discussed the film, which producers said represented the voice of all Kansas communities with declining populations.

The independent film was funded by the state humanities council.

Copies of the film are available for sale by Florence Historical Society and at Doyle Creek Mercantile, Florence. Twenty percent of the proceeds will benefit the historical society.
