Retired professor and Tabor alum to speak at school's commencement

Norman Ewert, a Tabor College alumnus and retired economics professor, will speak at graduation ceremonies slated for 10 a.m. May 23 at the Joel H. Wiens football stadium in Hillsboro.

Ewert graduated from Tabor in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in history and then went on to earn a graduate degree in economics at the University of Kansas and a doctorate in economics from Southern Illinois University.

He retired in 2014 after 41 years as an economics teacher at Wheaton College in Illinois.

Ewert said his education background at Tabor gave him a strong start to his teaching career.

“I’m very grateful for how Tabor helped me grow spiritually and intellectually,” he said. “Coming out of a strong Anabaptist faith background, Tabor helped me clarify my values and develop a curiosity about the larger world. My study of history developed an interest in seeing the bigger picture, the larger trends, and significant dynamics at work in our world.”
