Richard DeForest

Services for Peabody native and Wichita business owner Richard Lee DeForest, 73, were Tuesday at Westwood Presbyterian Church in Wichita.

An officer for what is now Intrust Bank and later owner of a laundry and dry cleaning business, Mr. DeForest died Thursday in Wichita.

Born Nov. 27, 1935, in Peabody, he graduated from Peabody High School in 1953, attended Kansas State University and College of Emporia, and served in the Coast Guard from 1960 to 1964.

A member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Albert Pike Masonic Lodge, and Westwood Presbyterian Church Choir, he sang at many weddings and funerals for relatives and friends.

Survivors include his brother Charles of El Dorado, twin sister Sally Attwater of Wichita, and sisters Jean Smith of Peabody and Linda Long of Alta Vista.

His parents, John and Cleo DeForest, and brothers Douglas and Jack preceded him in death.

The family has suggested memorials to the church choir or the American Cancer Society.
