Rupps to celebrate 50th anniversary

John and Jeanette (Russell) Rupp will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a come-and-go reception from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at their home. The Rupps married on Aug. 11, 1963, at Marion Christian Church. The Rev. Winston Warden officiated the wedding.

Jeanette had been teaching elementary school in Topeka, and John was a professional pilot for Shaver and Co. architects in Salina. After driving to a honeymoon in Colorado in John’s convertible sports car, they returned to Salina, where Jeanette began teaching and John continued flying.

When their daughter, Laura Lee, was born in 1966, Jeanette stayed home to raise her.

The Rupps lived in Salina; Savannah, Mo.; and Wichita before retiring to Marion, where they both grew up. In addition to being a pilot, John has worked for Kris-David and American Electric Co. Jeanette has taught in Topeka, Salina, and at Friends University’s Child Development Lab in Wichita.

They have enjoyed travel and have been to Padre Island, Colorado, Yellowstone National Park, the Bahamas, and Alaska twice.

Their daughter, Laura Baldwin, and her husband, Dan, have three children, Isaac, Jacob, and Nathan, all of Marion.

The couple has requested no gifts.
