Ruth Caselman

Former Marion resident Ruth Caselman, 94, died Saturday, May 6 at New Dawn Memory Care in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was born April 30, 1923, to Jim and Mabel (Griffin) Heeler in Beloit. She married William “Bill” Caselman on Oct. 20, 1942.

She was predominately a wife, mother, and homemaker throughout her life, but she joined her husband in owning and operating a jewelry store in Peabody, sold Beauty Counselor products, and baked cinnamon rolls for sale after the family moved to Marion.

She was Marion city librarian from 1963 until 1965, when the family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado.

She was employed at jewelry stores there, and owned and operated a craft store before she and her husband relocated to Florence, Colorado, for their retirement. During these years, she enjoyed her senior citizen exercise group and her vegetable and flower garden.

She was a loving wife and mother, devoted friend and always eager to give a helping hand to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son, David; and brother, James L. Heeler.

Survivors include: daughters Cheryl Loomer of Casper, Wyoming; Carol Maggard of Marion; and Linda Souturas and husband, Jim, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter in-law Diane Caselman of Grand Junction, Colorado; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were Monday, May 15, 2017, at Marion Christian Church, with interment in Beloit, Kansas.
