Sarah Stika

Sarah Stika passed away Feb. 21, 2016 at St. Luke Living Center at the age of 84.

She was born in Marion, Kansas, on June 2, 1931, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Stroda) Fortmeyer. She grew up and attended school in the Youngtown community east of Marion and high school at Marion High School.

Sarah married Louis Stika on Oct. 17, 1950. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past October, and lived on a farm east of Marion.

She attended St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Marion, and was active in Altar Society, in charge of funeral dinners, and taught catechism for over 12 years.

She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and made clothes for her daughters Rita and Janet all through their school years.

She played the accordion and the piano. For many years, she played at dances in the Odd Fellows Hall in Marion.

She is survived by her husband, Louis; daughters Rita Tomlinson and Janet Marler and husband Doug, both of Marion; grandchildren Gary Tomlinson, Kevin Marler and wife Amanda, and Karen Dornbush; great-grandchildren Tori Miller and husband Coty, Jackson Bryant, Jimi Dornbush, Katie Marler, Emily Dornbush, Trinity Marler, and Caleb Tomlinson; and great-great-granddaughter Briley Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Jeff Tomlinson; and great-grandchildren Lily, Corey, and Mattie Marler.

The Rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, and funeral mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25. Both will be at Holy Family Parish, St. Mark’s Church, Marion.

Her memorial was left to Marion City Library. Memorials may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home.
