Scam promises reward for paying taxes on time

The Better Business Bureau of Kansas is warning consumers of a new version of a common scam making the rounds.

In the latest twist on a scam where consumers receive a call telling them they’ve won a large sum of money, the callers say they want to reward consumers for paying their taxes and utilities on time. The caller may say that the recipient was selected at random by the U.S. government.

These offers are not legitimate, no matter how credible the caller may sound.

“It’s just another variation on an old technique to separate consumers from their money,” the Better Business Bureau warns. “Be aware as the holiday season approaches that such scams are going to increase.”
