Scouts attending National Jamboree

Marion Boy Scouts Troop 102 members Justin Barr and Dylan Goebel are attending the 2010 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

The 2010 jamboree celebrates the 100th anniversary of scouting in the United States. About 40,000 scouts were expected to attend.

They flew from Wichita to Washington, D.C., Thursday. The scouts planned to spend four days touring Washington before the 10-day jamboree.

The scouts will have many choices of activities at the jamboree: anything from rock climbing to snorkeling, Barr said.

Goebel said he was most excited about touring Washington.

“What are we least excited about? Washing clothes in a tub,” he said.

For the 10 days at the jamboree, the scouts will wash their clothes with a washboard, Goebel said. He expects everyone in the group to stink by the end of the jamboree.

“They’re having a heat wave, too,” he added.
