Script flipped in Week 2

The script flipped during Week 2 of high school football in Marion County. Teams that won last week lost this week, and vice versa.
Hillsboro
The Trojans forced Larned to lay an egg in a 37-0 rout at their home opener Friday.
“The guys played a solid game and did a good job executing our offensive and defensive game plans,” coach Demetrius Cox said.
Quarterback Zayne Haslett opened the game with a three-yard rushing touchdown.
Haslett found pay dirt two more times on the ground and finished with 47 rushing yards.
Haslett also found tight end Preston D’Albini for a 32-yard passing touchdown and wide receiver Braxton Hiebert for an eight-yard passing touchdown.
On defense, middle linebacker Hudson Rogers sacked Larned’s quarterback for a safety.
Hillsboro (1-1) will travel to Haven (2-0) Friday for arguably its toughest test yet. The Wildcats are ranked 46th in the state and 7th in Class 2A, according to Maxpreps.
Goessel
In Goessel’s home-opener against Rural Vista, the Bluebirds created fireworks early after recovering an onside kick out of the gate and marching in for a touchdown on a two-yard run from senior Claudio Flores.
Flores later scored another touchdown, this time from seven yards out, to push Goessel’s lead to 12-0. Offensive linemen Gage Valdois, Joshua Kahns, and Dawson Wonser paved the way in the trenches.
Flores found the end zone again with 3 minutes 23 seconds left in the first half for an early hat trick.
Later, a 35-yard pass from senior Brayton Base to sophomore Tanner Unruh set the ball up at the 2 yard line for another easy touchdown to help Goessel go into the break leading, 28-0.
Tides began to turn early in the third quarter, as Rural Vista scooped up a Bluebird fumble and went 52 yards for a score. This would prove to be the Heat’s only points of the game after converting a two-point attempt.
With 3 minutes left in the third quarter, Base found senior Wyatt Sommerfeld open on a 26-yard pass to score again.
Sophomore Noah Johnson later found a seam up the middle for a 33-yard sprint after Rural Vista punted. The Bluebirds eventually won, 42-8.
Goessel (1-1) now will move on to play Hartford (0-2) on the road Friday.
Centre
Centre football didn’t let road travel affect it Friday night against Southern Coffey County, pitching a shutout for a 47-0 victory.
Micah Carlson ran for 80 yards and three touchdowns during the game.
Quarterback Noah Brunner threw to Brady Idleman for a 21-yard passing touchdown, and Colby Diepenbrock found the end zone twice on short-yard runs.
The Cougars (1-1), who have felt the effects of a statewide referee shortage, will be at home Thursday against Altoona-Midway (0-2).
Marion
Marion had a difficult road match-up Friday against Inman, losing 41-0.
“As a team we are still trying to find a way to mesh with each other,” first-year coach Jackson Schneider said. “We struggled with physicality and will have to get much better controlling the line of scrimmage quickly.”
After a convincing 18-8 Week 1 victory over Remington, the Warriors’ offense stalled against Inman. Marion was held to 140 total yards while allowing the Teutons to score in each quarter.
“We have seen flashes of good on both sides of the ball through two weeks, but we have to be more consistent,” Schneider said.
The Warriors (1-1) will be back at home Friday to play Hutchinson Trinity (1-1).
Peabody-Burns
The other Warrior team, Peabody-Burns, also was shutout Friday, losing 47-0 against Tescott.
Senior quarterback Ayden Hurst went 14-for-26 through the air, good for 104 yards, but threw four interceptions.
On the ground, the Warriors rushed for 145 yards but couldn’t find the end zone. Hurst led the way on the ground with 57 yards on six attempts — good for an average rush of 9.5 yards.
Peabody-Burns (1-1) will look to bounce back Thursday against Elyria Christian (0-2).
