Senior center

Volunteers keep center moving

Marion Senior Center Correspondent

The center is thankful for the volunteers who keep the senior center functioning and fun, including those who deliver 30 meals a day.

Volunteers also helped with government commodities Nov. 4. Clayton Hamm and Jerry Kline went to Council Grove to pick them up. The crew — including Ivanlee Timm, Vern Bowers, Arlene Bowers, Evelyn Jewett, Leonard Klassen, Sue Clough, Shirley Bowers, and Harold Conyers — sacked them for distribution.

Mary Hett brought candy bars Nov. 11 for no reason at all.

Volunteer Barbara Smith is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to help senior citizens with prescription drug programs.

Marilyn Geis began her 80th birthday celebration by renting a red convertible to ride in. She brought it down to the center so seniors could see how the roof works. Dorothy Conyers rode with her.

Doug Fisher celebrated his birthday Nov. 16. He even wore a special birthday hat.

Senior citizens president Shirley Moore recognized veterans Nov. 17. Veterans recognized were Ralph Popp, Richard Brenzikofer, Keith Holtsclaw, Ivanlee Timm, Darrell Weigart, Jim Osborn, Rosse Case, Vern Bowers, Harold Conyers, Jerry Kline, and Don Rock.

Judi Stewart brought flowers which were shared with those receiving Meals on Wheels. Shirley Moore and Evelyn Jewett took them to seniors, who were surprised and delighted.

Nancy Pihl will talk about Vitamin D and calcium Dec. 1.
