Cookout makes up for snow day

Marion Senior Center correspondent

Marion Senior Center had its first noon cookout June 18 to make up for one of the winter days when meals were not served because of snow.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, and watermelon were on the menu. Mary Hett provided cake for her birthday.

The center’s next Saturday noon cookout will be July 16.

Carolyn White brought cake for her birthday June 16. Afterward, some seniors traveled by van to St. Luke Hospital for an open house of its new facilities.

Barbara Abbot decorated placemats with stickers for the center’s meal June 17.

Ham loaf, sweat potato casserole, fresh spinach salad, and cherry pie with ice cream won a contest in which seniors were asked to list their favorite menu items. The winning menu will be served July 27.

The senior center’s newsletter was assembled June 20 by Ivanlee and Mary Ann Timm, Darrell and Beulah Weigart, Jane Makovec, Nora Richter, Elsie Reiswig, Connie Fisher, and Shirley Bowers.

Janet Herzet, director of aging services at St. Luke Hospital, gave a presentation June 22.

The center will be closed Monday for the Fourth of July.
