CORRESPONDENTS:   Senior Center

Marion County Senior Center correspondent

We ended the month of March in a big way, celebrating two birthdays March 31, and welcomed back Pearl Helmer who returned after knee surgery. Rita Kraus had arranged for her son, Don, to celebrate his 60th birthday at the senior center, even providing ice cream cups for us. Shirley Moore brought miniature honey bears for us later in the week in observance of her birthday. We like birthdays!

Then came April Fool’s Day.

I arrived at work to find a “crime scene,” complete with victim outlines (a man and a dog) and police tape near my desk. We made a list of suspects in case the police came.

So, we got in the spirit of the day and used odds and ends of holiday napkins as placemats. We had a door price with Lanell Hett offering the number 13 to correspond with that number on our sign-in sheet. Richard Brenzikofer was the lucky winner of an empty box. (Lanell is the 13th child in her family and her daughter, Lindsay, was born on the 13th of January.)

It was announced that there was an increase of 72 volunteer hours in March, because of diligent nagging by kitchen personnel.

Rollin Schmidt gave a program April 1 on the Marion County recycling collection program. There was a lot of information and many questions.

Join us for lunch April 15, Senior Center Day. Norma Riggs and Lenore Dieter will give a musical program.
