One of the things we do at the senior center is have some nutrition trivia. Recently we learned about bananas. They are good for people with depression or high blood pressure, heartburn, and mosquito bites (rub the inside of a banana skin on the bites).

Ellen Darrow brought cake from her 90th birthday celebration to share with us. The same day, Dec. 15, Keith and Norine Holtsclaw brought treats for their 51st wedding anniversary.

Suzanne Thole’s birthday was Dec. 15, but she held her treats until the next day.

We received a note from Charlie and Blanche Cowan in Stockton, Mo. We are signing a Christmas card for them.

Senior Center Day was Dec. 17. There was a talent show after lunch. Leonard Klassen sang, Jim Hett did some recitations, Sue Clough also sang, and Virginia Downing read a story.

Christmas is past and we look forward to 2009 as another good year at Marion Senior Center.

Carol Hett brought birthday treats Dec. 18. They were homemade vanilla wafers with an animal cracker on top.

We hosted the monthly board meeting Dec. 19 of Marion County Senior Citizens. Henrietta Waner made special Christmas tree cookies to add to the menu. During lunch, our area agency field representative, Diane Euler, sang for us. She has a lovely voice and included “Ave Maria” among her selections.

Our Christmas dinner was served Dec. 22. Jerry Harp provided ice cream cups to help celebrate his anniversary. We sang “Jingle Bells” and rang whatever bells we were wearing. Sue Clough presented a musical program after lunch. Shirley Bowers was her accompanist.

The newsletter crew showed up Dec. 22 to prepare for a mailing. The crew included Ivanlee and Mary Ann Timm, Jane Makovec, Norma Woerz, Nora Richter, Elsie Reiswig, Harvey Wells, Ernie Lespagnard, Bill Schimpf, Sue Clough, Lanell Hett, and Gayla Ratzlaff.

We had a flurry of activity Dec. 23 when the craft corner had a half-price sale.

Come join us for lunch New Year’s Eve. It will be music box day so bring yours to share.

We are closed New Year’s Day.

Join us Jan. 8 when we celebrate Elvis’ birthday. We will play Elvis music all day and set up displays of items collected by local fans. At 6 p.m., Marc Baker of Wichita will do the moves and music of Elvis. There will be a light supper available by donation. Donations for the music also will be accepted.
