MARION SENIOR CENTER:   Seniors attend Sunflower Fair

Senior Center correspondent

Marion Senior Center took a van full of people to the Sunflower Fair Sept. 23 in Salina, at which Jerry Kline was Marion County’s honoree because of his big support of senior centers and the “Meals on Wheels” program.

Patrons celebrated Valera Morgan’s birthday as well as Roger, and Lucille Bitners’ anniversary on Sept. 18.

The newsletter crew visited Sept. 22. Members include Wanda Hamm, Elsie Reiswig, Nora Richter, Jane Makovec, Pat Busey, Evelyn Jewett, Shirley Moore, Fred Puttroff, Irmagene Goodman, and Mary Hett.

Harold Triggs brought treats on Sept. 23 for his birthday. Patrons also sang to center daily volunteer Robin Nelson, whose birthday was Sept. 22.

Residents from Hilltop Manor and Marion Assisted Living visited the center to listen to a presentation given by Eastmoor United Methodist Church pastor Dan Ferguson who spoke about his background and a recent trip to Great Britain.

Tickets are available for the Marion County Senior Citizens annual meeting that will be Oct. 16 in Hillsboro. County teachers will be honored at the event. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by stopping by the senior center or calling, (620) 382-2942.

Beginning at 1 p.m. Oct. 13, flu shots will be given by the county health department.

Steve Schmidt will talk about the Santa Fe Trail Oct. 8 after lunch.
