Seniors celebrate cowboys

Senior Center correspondent

Marion Senior Center celebrated the 9th National Day of the Cowboy on July 26. Fred Puttroff brought some of his John Wayne collection, including a large standup image.

Cowboy poetry was read by Marilyn Cox, Jerry Kline, Sue Clough, Neysa Eberhard, Eileen Sieger, Norma Kline, Connie Fisher, Janet Bryant, and Puttroff. “Home on the Range” was sung.

Forty-two people attended a cookout July 27.

The center is looking for people to bind baby quilts. The center is collecting school supplies for kindergarten and first grade students. It was incorrectly reported last week that the center was a collection point for a similar drive by Butler Community College. Collections at the center are for a separate project organized by foster grandparent Madonna Schafers.

Merrill Branson presented a program July 31. He played piano and told stories. Rita Linnens, of Kansas Truck Mobility will speak Aug. 14.
