Sew-What quilt shop plans location change

Staff writer

The Sew-What quilt shop will be moving from their current location to 329 E. Main Street — a move co-owner Carol Riggs said will benefit the shop.

“It’s about three times larger than the space we currently have,” she said. “As it is, we couldn’t stick one more yard of fabric in here, even if we wanted to. We’re crammed.”

This will be the store’s third downtown move. Riggs said they keep growing — and, therefore, keep needing a larger space. She believes the new space will allow the store to have a dedicated instructional room, which will save storeowners a lot of hassle.

“Just yesterday, we had Quilts of Valor in and they took over most of the space,” she said. “We had to move everything over to the wall just to fit everyone in. We could use a permanent, dedicated space for those kind of projects. One of the quilters had to sit in front of the open door.”

Riggs said there will be no time lapse between the closing of the one store and the opening of the other.

The storeowners — Carol Riggs, Jan Meisinger, and Paula Perry — expect to open the new location on May 1. In celebration of their third birthday and the move, they will be having a sale, refreshments and giveaways during the week of May 1 to 5.
