The following reports were provided by the sheriff’s office:
Theft of a tractor on 340th Road
Marvin R. Barlow of Burdick reported a 1975 Ford 4000 tractor was taken from his property Aug. 4 on 340th Road. It appeared a hay rake was removed from the tractor and the tractor was placed on a trailer. The loss was valued at $8,000.
Six dairy cows shot on Goldenrod and 270th roads, Durham
Dale Klassen, 922 240th Road, Hillsboro, reported someone had shot six European ox dairy cows, fenced on the owner’s property, at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in their heads, necks, and stomachs. The cows are being treated at Kansas State University. Officials believe a 12-gauge shotgun was used. The value of the animals is $15,000.
Stop sign damaged at 90th and Jade roads, Peabody
Marion County road and bridge department reported a stop sign was shot with four bullets Aug. 18 at 90th and Jade roads, Peabody. The sign was worth $80.
Thief steals truck at U.S. 50 and Sunflower Road, Marion
A 1987 GMC truck was taken Aug. 19 while parked at U.S. 50 and Sunflower Road, Marion. The truck, owned by Dave Hett, 1212 E. Main St., Marion, was located Aug. 21 in Cameron County, Missouri, and returned to the owner. The truck was valued at $10,000.
Cornfield damaged in the 600 block of 230th Road, Hillsboro
James Enns, 770 240th Road, Hillsboro, reported someone drove through a cornfield at 3 a.m. Aug. 21, causing $4,000 in damages.
Domestic altercation in the 100 block of West Fifth Street, Florence
Jessica Hulett, 122 W. Fifth St., Florence, reported she and another person got into a pushing match at noon Aug. 21. Both individuals had small, red marks on their bodies.
Mailbox struck by vehicle
Bert W. Jost, 2190 K-15, Hillsboro, reported a vehicle had struck his mailbox at his residence sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 22. The mailbox and post were valued at $60.
