Sherri Pankratz fills Centre board vacancy

Staff writer

After a six-month vacancy, Lincolnville will once again have a representative on the Centre Board of Education.

At its Monday meeting, the board voted 4-2 to appoint Sherri Pankatz to serve out the term of Clay Simons, who resigned in April.

Terry Deines nominated Pankratz, noting that she was the first to respond to an ad for a replacement. There was some discussion before a vote was taken.

The board accepted the resignation of history teacher and athletic director Greg Wyatt at the end of the school year.

They approved substitute bus drivers’ pay at $20 an hour with no guaranteed hours.

Jess and Ashley Courier were approved to enroll a foreign exchange student, Davi Belato Salgado, in Centre for the rest of the school year.

The board spent considerable time discussing the virtual program. They asked Superintendent Susan Beeson to develop a board policy regarding what activities virtual school students can participate in at Centre Schools, such as graduation, prom, and homecoming.

The board also reviewed expenses associated with the program. Beeson reported that state aid has been greatly reduced for full-time and part-time virtual students, but the program has netted $45,000 that can be put into the general fund and returned to the virtual fund if needed in the future.
