Shirley A. Wendt

Shirley A. Wendt, 77, of Herington died Saturday at her home in Herington. She was born Dec. 21, 1934, at her family’s home in Latimer to Edward F. and Frances E. (Kandt) Koepsel.

She was a homemaker and worked as a dental assistant and as a clerk for Minion’s Dress Shop. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aide and taught Sunday school.

She was a member of the Sorosis Club, loved playing cards, and was an avid bowler. She graduated from Herington High School in 1952.

She married Cecil R. Wendt on Nov. 29, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church. He survives of the home.

She is also survived by a son, Dr. Richard Wendt of Lawrence; three daughters, Sandra Schmidt of Buhler, Cheryl Mussatto of Osage City, and Jackie Lopez of Wichita; a brother, Norwood Koepsel of Bells, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Velora Kasten and Morine Christian; and three brothers, Lloyd Koepsel, Edward C. Koepsel, and DeWayne Koepsel.
