Marion County sheriff’s officers responded to a call of a possible shooting at about 4:40 p.m. Saturday at 731 N. Newell Road, just north of Peabody.
The victim had been transported by private vehicle to the ambulance building on Sycamore Street in downtown Peabody.
Sheriff’s officers discovered that a 14-year-old juvenile male had been handling a rifle when it discharged, striking another juvenile male in the left arm and leg.
The injured juvenile was flown to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of a single gunshot wound to the left arm and both legs.
The incident is currently under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
