To the editor:

Thank you for the coverage of the Shrine Bowl in last week’s Record. However, the Record missed a lot of information that is very pertinent.

Did you know that there was a professionally conducted all-star cheerleading workshop that also occurred last week? Peabody-Burns cheerleaders were part of the all-star cheer camp that cheered for both football teams.

Did you know that there were three Marion High School band members in the all-state high school marching band performing the pre-game and halftime shows? Marion’s representatives were Logan Waner, trumpet, and John Lind and Aidan Cairns, trombone.

Did you know that these band members were sponsored by Centre Masonic Lodge of Lincolnville? Without the contributions of the Lodge, the Shrine Bowl would not exist. I would like to thank lodge members for their help.

Most importantly, did you know that the Kansas Shrine Bowl is primarily a fundraiser for kids that are served by Shriners Hospitals? One of the kids in the band was a teen with a prosthetic leg who had been helped by the Shriners. All of the proceeds from the football game, the cheerleading clinic, and the band camp go to Shriners hospitals and related charity research.

Please be sure to cover the entire event in the future, OK? Kyle, Logan, John, Aidan, and the Peabody girls enjoyed their experiences in Hays. However, the one thing that really touched their hearts was the visit to the Shriners Hospital, the reason for the event.
