At a special meeting Thursday, the Centre Board of Education hired Sharon Simons of Lincolnville as the head kindergarten through 12th-grade secretary. She is replacing Dawn Luna, who resigned at the end of the 2010-11 school year.

In addition to secretarial duties, Simons will be responsible for providing reports on Medicaid reimbursements and will serve as deputy clerk.

The board also approved a $37,980 contract with Surface Protection Services of El Dorado, to pave the school parking lot. The only other bid received was from Kansas Paving of Wichita, for $61,878.

The board instructed the administration to seek sealed bids on wireless and wired intercom systems.
