Singer to visit
Kansas for first time

Cameron DuBois’s talent has taken across the southlands, but Kansas will be a first for her when she visits Marion Saturday to perform at Chingawassa Days.
The Alabama singer-songwriter said she is looking forward to her first performance this far north.
“I have never visited before, but I am super-excited for that,” she said.
DuBois taught herself how to play guitar by watching instructional YouTube videos.
She began posting shorts of herself performing her own songs on the social media platform while studying civil engineering at Auburn University in Alabama.
DuBois played regular gigs in venues around Montgomery while at college, winning NASH Next and Auburn Sings.
After graduation, DuBois says she made a decision that surprised her. She hit the road to pursue a music career.
“I have always had the passion for it,” she said during a telephone interview. “I never expected that I would do it full time, but I have always had the heart for it.”
DuBois has since joined the emerging artists’ program in Nashville to develop her guitar playing and vocal skills.
She has been working on her first album at Wishbone Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with songwriters and producers Cindy Walker and Michael Curtis.
She wrote her first single, “The Home Place,” as a gift to her family on their last Christmas at her great-grandparents’ house.
“It had been in my mother’s side of the family since 1908, and we had spent every holiday there,” she said.
She said she wrote the song because “most of us have a home place that we can relate to.”
The house has since been torn down, and DuBois says it will be missed. The single is now available on Spotify.
She plans to continue touring and hopes for a record deal in the future.
In the meantime, she says, she will keep doing what she loves.
