Smart driver safety course offered

The American Association of Retired Persons will offer a smart driver safety course from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 30 and 31 in the Hillsboro City Building council room.

The class is for all licensed drivers and will meet for two four-hour sessions. No actual driving will be required to complete the course. Participants will receive a workbook and have the opportunity for discussion. There will be no written tests.

The cost will be $20 for the general public and $15 for AARP members.

Participants are required to attend both four-hour sessions in order to receive a completion certificate to present to insurance companies.

Kansas is one of the few states that allows any licensed driver who takes the course to qualify for a premium reduction. Every principal driver of a vehicle must complete the course to receive the reduction in premium.

The class will be taught by Richard and Marilyn Riemer of Hillsboro. Those interested in taking the class may sign up at the senior center or call the Riemers at (620) 947-3453.
