St. Luke Hospital and Living Center ended February in the hole with nearly an $87,000 deficit but overall net income remains in the black at more than $182,000 for the year which began Oct. 1.
Despite the loss, according to a report by chief financial officer Bev Reid, the hospital remains on a positive track.
Even though inpatient revenue was down from January by 62 percent, income remained ahead of the budget by nearly 29 percent.
However, outpatient revenue was down and was eight percent behind budget.
Clinic revenue was up 14 percent but behind budget 21 percent for the year.
Revenue for the living center also was down but that was attributed to a 28-day month.
Home health revenue was up nearly 10 percent from January but 12 percent behind budget for the year.
Total operating costs for the month were more than 10 percent below budget.
Net loss from operations for the month was $86,916 with an overall net loss of $23,189 for February.
Laboratory procedures are down 285 or nearly 11 percent from January and 232 procedures behind budget for the month.
Radiology scans are up 25 from January and ahead of budget for the month.
Physical therapy procedures saw a decrease of 12 percent or 131 procedures since January, and 97 procedures below budget for the month.
In other business:
- The hospital now is able to treat and offer services to women who qualify for the Early Detection Works Program and is the only provider in Marion, McPherson, and Chase counties. The program pays for clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap tests, and diagnostic services for women who qualify.
- As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the state will receive $450 million during a 27-month period to assist with Medicaid expenses. Medicare and Medicaid payment incentives totaling $17 billion are available for facilities and providers who have a “certified electronic health record system.”
- Five firms are being considered for design services for hospital building improvements.
The next regular hospital board meeting is at 7 p.m. April 28 in the clinic basement.
