In an effort to help employee fitness and set a good example to the public, St. Luke Hospital began “Operation: You Can Do It” March 29.
Thirty-one employees signed up to train for Run For Your Momma, a 2-mile fun run and half marathon sponsored by Mothers of Preschoolers of Marion. The races will be in August at Marion County Park and Lake.
Until then, participants are tracking their training progress and posting it at the hospital. Through three weeks, participants logged 460 miles, Kim Helmer said.
Robyn Sadowski estimated Friday that she has run about 20 miles since she began keeping track March 29.
“I’m trying to run at least three miles, two days a week,” she said.
She runs between one and two miles other days. Sadowski said she plans to start running four miles at least one day per week. She will try to run the half marathon if she feels prepared when August arrives.
Staying motivated to run is easier now that she tracks it, she said.
The group provides positive peer pressure. Other participants encourage each other to continue exercising.
“I think knowing that other people are watching me helps,” Sadowski said.
