State increases tax on golf carts

Residents can appeal

Marion County Commission Chairman Dan Holub said Monday that Kansas more than tripled personal property taxes for golf carts, but taxpayers can appeal the cost.

The tax previously was less than $20, but increased to $75, he said. The county appraiser receives a guide from the state but can deviate if a taxpayer shows why a golf cart isn’t worth that much.

Holub said taxpayers must specifically pay under protest to maintain the right to appeal the cost.
