Street work of
a different kind

Staff writer

People driving on Main St. have been keeping watchful eyes for workers engaged in two projects in the downtown corridor this week.

Crosswalk stripes and handicapped parking markers are getting a fresh coat of bright new paint in preparation for Art in the Park and Old Settlers’ Day festivities.

Additionally, the street is being surveyed in preparation for a streetscape project slated to get underway in 2017.

City administrator Roger Holter said the streetscape project will include new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and removing and reworking sidewalk ramps in five locations where they are too steep. Those ramps will be extended with new concrete.

“The area that will be redone is from 1st and Main to 5th and Main,” Holter said. “The area has to be surveyed including elevations so EBH can do the design work for the sidewalks and achieve ADA access compliance to the existing businesses in that corridor.”
