To the editor:
Growing up in Hillsboro, I’ve always been surrounded by a close-knit community that has nurtured me during my most impressionable years. I grew up in the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church and was a member of the youth group. I was actively involved in sports at Hillsboro High School and was a member of the Technology Student Association and the Letterman’s Club.
After graduating from high school, I decided to further my education at Tabor College on a track and field scholarship and pursue a degree in athletic training. After my first semester, I decided that athletic training wasn’t the thing for me. I had always been interested in politics and decided that I should study political science.
When I was young, I thought that it would be amazing to be the first female president but I have since decided that isn’t the route I’d like to go. I’d rather be behind a political operation than on the front lines.
When I was first made aware of the opportunity to intern with Tracey Mann’s campaign for Congress, I thought it would be a great chance for me to learn about the campaign process and to see if it was something I really wanted to do. After doing some research on Mr. Mann and his platform, I immediately realized he was the kind of guy that I would not only like to put my vote behind but I would also be very honored to intern with him.
During the past few weeks of working with Tracey and the rest of his staff, I have realized the great character of the people around me. Every day, I am greeted with many smiles and encouragement for the day ahead. I have also witnessed that Tracey is the person with the right kind of experience for Kansas. Tracey is a fifth-generation farmer and he studied agricultural economics at Kansas State University. He knows the ins and outs of the Big 1st District’s most important industries: crop production and the livestock industry.
I feel blessed to be allowed the opportunity to intern with the Mann for Congress campaign and I am very excited to see what this summer has to offer me.
